NEB fires back at iPolitics columnist Ross Belot | As Canada’s national energy regulator, a key aspect of the mandate of the National Energy Board (NEB) is to study energy matters over which Parliament has jurisdiction, and to provide the government with advice on those issues. It’s our job to look at today’s energy market uncertainties and then explore what their implications are for our country. We expect scrutiny of our work, and we also owe it to Canadians to provide them with our views. That is why it is important to address the issues that Ross Belot raised in his recent iPolitics column about the credibility of the NEB’s energy market information. Specifically, he wrote that the NEB’s testimony to the Senate Committee on Transportation included projections for future oil prices and future volumes of oil transported by rail that were too high — referring to them as “unrealistic” and “scary”.
