B.C.’s environmental assessment office is doing a better job at monitoring major natural-resource projects such as mines and power generation, B.C.’s auditor general has reported in a follow-up to a damning 2011 audit that found major gaps. A progress audit was released this past week by B.C.’s auditor general Carol Bellringer. While it gave high marks for progress, the report said two of its recommendations remain outstanding. It will also release results of an audit of compliance and enforcement of projects later this year.
She told reporters in a press conference from Victoria the environmental assessment office (EAO) has made substantial progress on four recommendations:
