$607M power merger promises savings for residents in Hamilton and other city partners

Politicians promised lower electricity rates, more green energy projects and no loss of control Thursday as they signed a deal to merge five local power companies into new giant.

The as-yet unnamed company merges Hamilton-based Horizon Utilities with power distributors serving Mississauga, Markham, Barrie, Vaughan and St. Catharines. Together they will pay the province $607 million to buy Hydro One in Brampton.
