B.C. Lottery pulls slot machine after malfunction leads to $100,000 pay day

A malfunctioning government slot machine mistakenly awarded a woman in Penticton a jackpot worth 100 times the allowed maximum earlier this year, prompting the B.C. Lottery Corp. to quietly repair dozens of machines vulnerable to the same flaw, The Vancouver Sun has learned.

The jackpot occurred at a “Dragon Fever” slot machine in the Penticton Lakeside Resort’s Lake City Casino, where a B.C. Lottery Corp. machine “erroneously” displayed a $99,999.97 prize for a woman on Jan. 20, said BCLC spokeswoman Laura Piva-Babcock.

The win raised alarm bells for lottery officials because the machine is supposed to max out at $1,000 jackpots, she said.
