Canadian authorities, consumers aim to put squeeze on ‘drip pricing’

Airlines’ separate baggage fees. Event ticket processing fees. Banks’ withdrawal fees. Government user fees. Rental cars’ insurance fees. Hard-copy statement fees. Hotels’ parking fees. Monthly administration fees on prepaid financial cards.

Better known as “add-on” pricing or “drip pricing,” these increasingly common charges are slowly eroding consumers’ buying power and making it more difficult to do comparison shopping. And some of them break Canadian consumer law.
