Chilliwack agri-tourism operators fear ALC crackdown

Some popular Chilliwack agri-tourism destinations are under threat and some 2016 weddings are cancelled thanks to a crackdown on non-farm activities on farmland and proposed provincial government changes to the Agricultural Land Reserve (ALR).

That’s the message from owners of the Chilliwack Corn Maze & Pumpkin Farm in Greendale andFantasy Farms in Rosedale and others, each of whom have different concerns.

“This is very alarming for us,” Gary Moran of Fantasy Farms told the Times Monday.

“It is concerning for us,” Diane Bruinsma of the Chilliwack Corn Maze said last week.

And at Shelby’s Pond in Rosedale, weddings for 2016 are cancelled.
