Rely on pulled-over drunks to tell you where they got their last drinks? Police say it’s worth a try in the fight against impaired driving. More and more Southwestern Ontario police forces are doing just that, under a program that tracks bars that are overserving.
The Last Drink program, organized by the Alcohol and Gaming Commission of Ontario (AGCO), started as a pilot project with only four forces in 2011, and has grown to include 28 forces — including several in the London region.
The purpose is to make sure bar owners and staff are on board in the fight against a problem that is still one of the biggest killers on Ontario roads today, despite decades of public awareness campaigns about the dangers of drinking and driving.
