Provinces back federal changes to pipeline approval process

Provincial governments in Alberta and Ontario were quick to support federal government changes that will include the impact on upstream greenhouse gas emission levels in the approval process for TransCanada Corporation’s Energy East pipeline project.

Federal Natural Resources Minister Jim Carr and Environment and Climate Change Minister Catherine McKenna announced January 27, 2016 that the federal government will assess whether Energy East would increase greenhouse gas emissions from associated oil and gas projects. Downstream impacts will not be part of the new assessments.
