Restaurant lobby head urges revamp of liquor laws for 2015 Stampede

After red-eyed Calgarians took to bars at 5 a.m. for this year’s Olympic hockey final, one local bar owner is hoping laws can been similarity loosened in time for next year’s Stampede.

Gerard Curran is owner of James Joyce Irish Pub and chair of the lobby group Restaurants Canada. “I believe that we need to look at the act and overhaul the act in the next year or two,” he said Friday on the CBC radio show Eyeopener.

In February, the Alberta Gaming and Liquor Commission (AGLC) allowed all bars to open at 5 a.m. for the men’s hockey final victory against Sweden at the Sochi Olympics.
