The developer of the Sandown Commons commercial centre on the former North Saanich racetrack property has been granted a one-year extension to its conditional Agricultural Land Commission approval.
Platform Properties has until Nov. 14, 2017, to meet the commission’s requirements for a reclamation and drainage plan for the part of the property that will remain in the Agricultural Land Reserve, said Curt Kingsley, North Saanich’s director of corporate services.
Municipal staff are working with Platform, which represents the Randall family that owns the land, to meet the land commission’s requirements.
In May 2011, the owners of the Sandown Racetrack applied to exclude 12 acres of the property from the ALR and rezone them for commercial usage. In exchange, the remaining 83 acres of the 95-acre site are to be given to the municipality for as-yet-undecided community agricultural use.
