The B.C. Liberal goal of developing a liquefied natural gas industry is not necessarily at odds with targets for reducing greenhouse gas emissions, according to the recent report from the provincial climate leadership team.
“The team concluded that if some LNG development went ahead, the 2050 target, and a new 2030 target, could still be met if the climate policies we’ve recommended are implemented,” says the Pembina Institute’s Matt Horne in a blog posting this week on the website of the clean-energy think-tank.
“I would personally prefer to see the province put more of its economic development efforts into non fossil-fuel opportunities,” he added. “That said, I’m still happy to support the package of recommendations we’ve made because of the progress they would represent for efforts to limit carbon pollution from LNG and from the rest of the economy.”
