The great anti-spam cash grab

The CRTC recently extracted $200,000 from Rogers Media Inc. for various email peccadilloes, having previously grabbed $150,000 from Porter Airlines and $48,000 from online dating service PlentyOfFish. In all, the CRTC brags that it has obtained $1.5million from Canadian businesses to enforce “Canada’s Anti-Spam Legislation” or “CASL.”

CASL is a bad law. It offers no benefit to consumers, yet imposes red tape and additional cost on businesses.
