Operators slam B.C. regulator for failing to issue more taxi licences

Some background is helpful to understand how the rubber meets the road in Vancouver’s taxi system.

Before a cabbie picks up a fare in Vancouver, approval is required from both the city and the provincial regulatory body, the Passenger Transportation Board, explained City of Vancouver spokesman Jag Sandhu in an email.

“The main role of the PTB is to determine the number of licences, while the city’s main role is to ensure quality of service,” Sandhu said.
