Summer rig activity in 2016 fell 60 per cent from 2014 numbers | An Oct. 25 report form the National Energy Board (NEB) shows low oil and natural gas prices have caused Western Canadian rig activity to fall significantly over the past two years, adjusting for seasonal fluctuations. Rig activity in Western Canada through 2010 to 2014 varied seasonally between 300 and 425 rigs drilling at any time. In 2015, about 150 were operating on average at anytime. The latest numbers for 2016 show summer rig activity fell more than 60 per cent from those 2014 numbers to 85.
