The Alberta government has indicated that its new Employment Pension Plans Act and supporting regulations will take effect on September 1, 2014.
The legislation was passed in 2012, but the government did not approve the regulations until July 22, 2014.
As a recent Blakes Bulletin points out, amendments to the legislation are being considered even as it is poised to take effect. Amendments introduced by the government by way of Bill 10 in April 2014 proved quite controversial and have been deferred to the Standing Committee on Alberta’s Economic Future.
