Andrew J. Kriegler, a deputy superintendent at Canada’s powerful banking regulator who missed out on the top job there in June, is heading instead to the Investment Industry Regulatory Organization of Canada as its president and chief executive officer.
His appointment at IIROC, the investment industry’s self-regulatory agency, is effective Nov. 1.
Mr. Kriegler was considered by some to be a dark horse to lead Ottawa’s policy-focused Office of the Superintendent of Financial Institutions because most of his experience was on Bay Street, but that is an attractive background for the person who takes over at IIROC from Susan Wolburgh Jenah. Mr. Kriegler will be responsible for leading a regulator that oversees all investment dealers and trading activity on debt and equity marketplaces in Canada.
