Alberta Securities Commission list names 135 who haven’t paid fines

Violators of Alberta securities laws who don’t pay their fines will find themselves named (and possibly shamed) on a list of unpaid orders on the Alberta Securities Commission website from now on, the regulator said Thursday.

A total of 135 individuals and companies who haven’t paid penalties imposed since December 2005 have been placed on the list designed to identify and deter those who flout provincial securities law and then ignore its attempts to collect. The list is to be updated every three months.

“Holding respondents accountable for their misconduct is important for investor protection and for protecting the integrity of the Alberta capital market,” said Bill Rice, chair and chief executive of the ASC, in a news release.
