Burnaby pumps the brakes on Uber

After hearing what Uber had to offer in March, City of Burnaby staffers say the controversial ride-sharing service’s current business model doesn’t comply with city rules and therefore doesn’t belong.

Although Uber said it currently isn’t pursuing to operate in Burnaby, the executive committee of council invited the organization to present its operations program to determine if it would comply with city and provincial bylaws.

While not suggesting a ban against Uber outright — as Vancouver barred it from operating three years ago in the city — the company is expected to hear it’s not eligible for a business licence.
