The Nova Scotia government and its official Opposition are meeting with officials from the Senate Committee on Transport and Communications Friday to voice their support for the proposed Energy East pipeline and a possible extension through Nova Scotia. The committee is completing a study on the transportation of crude oil for a report it will submit to Parliament. Senators were in Port Hawkesbury Thursday to meet with officials from local municipalities, they’re slated to meet in Halifax on Friday to hear from energy minister Michel Samson, Opposition leader Jamie Baillie, representatives from Mi’kmaq groups, the Ecology Action Centre and others.
