Ex-head of BCLC named president of new casino-resort company

Concerns are being raised about the former head of the B.C. Lottery Corporation being named president of a company that will oversee a proposed new $535-million casino complex beside BC Place in downtown Vancouver.

“Michael Graydon is jumping right into a role where his inside knowledge could provide a huge benefit for a private company,” said New Democratic Party gambling critic Shane Simpson on Friday. “Also, this is a new casino proposal that presumably BCLC has helped negotiate the terms for. The optics are terrible.”

Simpson said the B.C. government should be asking that its current audit of BCLC look closely at Graydon’s appointment. “Did they put in place any contractual obligations that will keep Mr. Graydon from using this new position unfairly?
