Legalization Day Live: More than 1,000 pot sales online in the first hour, says B.C. government

The B.C. government is touting the success of the province’s online cannabis store, which went live shortly after midnight.

Mike Farnworth, B.C.’s minister of public safety and solicitor general, held a news conference Wednesday morning, on the day Canada formally legalized the recreational use of marijuana. He said that they sold more than 1,000 cannabis products from the new website www.bccannabisstores.com in the first hour, and that online sales have been “steady” all morning.

By noon, he said there had been more than 4,000 transactions online, and there was considerable interest at the Kamloops store.

Prices range from $6.99 to $14 a gram and higher on the site, something people on social media were quick to complain about, with a few suggesting they will stick will their dealer.
