OEB cuts consumers some slack on natural gas bills

Consumers will now have 27 months to pay back the $655.5 million shortfall accrued by Enbridge Gas Distribution due to soaring demand caused by a winter that was the “longest and coldest on record in Ontario in 37 years”, according to the Ontario Energy Board.

The board rendered a decision late Thursday afternoon saying that it was extending the time allotted to Ontario consumers to pay back the massive shortfall to just over two years. Enbridge had wanted consumers to pay back the $655.5 million in 12 months so it could balance its books more quickly.
