PRRD wants utilities commission to look at power projects

The Peace River Regional District voted on Thursday to send a letter to the Ministry of Energy and Mines urging the department not to exempt two new power projects from the B.C. Utilities Commission.

The move comes as the ministry is considering changing provincial energy regulations around two projects—the North Montney Power Supply project and the Peace Region Electricity Supply Project.

The North Montney Power Supply project would plug about 100 megawatts of load from eight Progress Energy sites into the BC Hydro system. It would include about 140 kilometres of transmission lines, and about 65 kilometre of distribution lines, according to a letter from the ministry.
