BC Hydro was already making plenty of headlines in 2015 with the start of construction on the $9-billion Site C dam project when a summer windstorm battered southwest B.C. and delivered the utility its biggest power failure, with more than 700,000 customers knocked offline.
Since then, a series of winter storms have put BC Hydro’s business of keeping the lights on more in the news, while it still faces metaphorical storms of controversy. On Site C, the issues range from the destruction of eagle nests in the construction zone to local hiring (in addition to continuing opposition to the project.)
The Sun caught up with BC Hydro CEO Jessica McDonald, now almost a year-and-a-half into the job, to talk about what lies ahead for the utility in 2016.
