Countries or regions of countries that rely on oil have been suffering economically during the past year or so because of the depressed price of oil. In the case of Canada, one of these regions is Alberta. Since the Canadian government, and indirectly Canadians, received a lot of revenue from oil during the most recent boom, we owe oil-producing regions the opportunity to continue to thrive and grow during this lull in the global price of oil.
Our current prime minister’s father implemented the National Energy Program (NEP), which was arguably a good idea with one flaw. This flaw was that there was no domestic floor to the price of oil.
