Vancouver council has shelved wine sales in grocery stores, at least until next year. Offered a chance to launch a one-year, five-store pilot project in Vancouver, councillors instead opted to scrap the plan until a larger review of the city’s liquor regulations is complete in 2016.
“The province finished their review of liquor policy and we asked staff to look at some quick starts, things we could implement before the holiday season,” said Coun. Heather Deal. “One of those things was the pilot project, but as we heard it discussed in council there were a huge number of questions. It became clear that we couldn’t make this a quick start without a full consultative process.”
The provincial liquor policy review first unveiled early in 2014 contains 73 recommendations, many aimed at liberalizing trade opportunities for the province’s fledgling distilling industry, craft brewers and winemakers.

Glad they decided to not go ahead with this plan. It really does make it way to easy for everyone to get their hands on alcohol if its right there along side the ketchup or coffee beans! Being married to an alcoholic, I know how problematic that easy access would be.
