Canada’s broadcast regulator says it hasn’t actually issued an order banning simultaneous substitution during the Super Bowl yet, rendering an appeal filed by Bell Media and the National Football League moot.
In a notice announcing changes to simultaneous substitution regulations on Nov. 19, the Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission addressed arguments made by Bell Media parent company BCE Inc. and the NFL, who are fighting the ruling in court. BCE filed an appeal in March and the Federal Court agreed to hear it, granting the NFL permission to have a say in support of Bell’s arguments.
