A plan to build a housing development on agricultural land in West Kelowna has local and provincial implications, says a councillor who opposes the proposal.
West Kelowna Coun. Duane Ophus called the proposal a “slippery slope” on Monday.
“If this one, why not others? There’s many (owners of) similar pieces of land within the city centre who will have the same expectations. It also has implications around the province. I’m a very strong proponent of the ALR (Agricultural Land Reserve).”
Ophus was commenting on the city’s decision to hold a third vote on a proposal to support the removal of a 2.4-hectare site at the high-profile corner of Gellatly Road and Boucherie Road, and send it to the Agricultural Land Commission for consideration.
