I’m a progressive liberal and I’m pro vaping. I believe in science and try to take a rational level headed approach on topics up for debate. I was interested in and agreed with most of what the first half of this interview contained. BUT I think the second half of the interview, demonizing progressives throughout history and dissecting different philosophical ideas, was inappropriate and unnecessary and only serves to split apart a diverse vaping community. That’s where you lost me. But I guess the ancient proverb, the enemy of my enemy is my friend, holds true here.
Hi Elizabeth, great comment. I do understand how the second part of the interview would pique a progressive vaper. However, we are not picking a fight here. This is an ideological battle. Take a look around at everyone from politicians to bureaucrats to public health and your friends and neighbors. Identify the people who are the most ardent anti-vapers and then ask yourself are they classical liberals? Diehard individualists? Libertarians? Are many even Republican? Or are they mostly (almost always) Progressives, liberals, leftists, Democrats… If you could honestly say its an even mix, then I’d pay attention to the “come together” argument. But after four years of in-depth coverage on this issue, it is my professional opinion that Progressives are the problem. Remember, there are Progressive Republicans too.
