Health Canada is warning Canadians that vaping products can carry a risk of pulmonary illness after two recent deaths in the U.S. have been linked to vaping. The federal agency is advising vaporizer users to watch out for symptoms of pulmonary illness, such as coughing, shortness of breath and chest pain, nausea, vomiting and diarrhea.

Over the last few weeks, health officials across the U.S. have been reporting cases of respiratory illness. People have had trouble breathing, chest pain, stomach complaints in a few cases, and many have been hospitalized. Three deaths have been reported so far. The CDC suggests that the culprit might be vaping.

Provincial Health Officer Dr. Bonnie Henry says while there have not been any reports of serious pulmonary issues related to vaping reported in Canada, she’s keeping an eye on reports out of the United States.

The Board of Health has thrown their support behind Ottawa’s Chief Medical Officer amid growing health concerns over vaping.
