Legalized cannabis is on the horizon in Canada but the vast majority of Nova Scotians say they likely won’t partake — even when the stuff is sold in stores.
Results of a poll of 400 adult Nova Scotians conducted this month by Corporate Research Associates reveals that 19 per cent of Nova Scotians indicate plans to “definitely or probably” purchase marijuana post-legalization, at least occasionally, for personal use. Eight in 10 (79 per cent) said they will either probably not or definitely not do so.
The results also show that intent to use cannabis once it is legalized is consistent across the province, but men and those under age 55 are more likely to purchase the substance for recreational use.
“Based on current purchase intentions of marijuana for personal use, the initial results are perhaps lower than what many may have anticipated,” said Don Mills, chairman and CEO of Corporate Research Associates in a news release.
