Canada deserves meaningful dialogue on pipelines: Yedlin

Kinder Morgan Canada president Ian Anderson tried to bring some levity to his remarks last week at a Calgary energy summit hosted by the Economic Club of Canada when he remarked how he hoped the beeping of a cellphone was not bringing more news about events in Burnaby, B.C.

Anderson was referring to protests targeting the work Kinder Morgan is attempting to complete for the National Energy Board around the proposed expansion of its TransMountain pipeline. He was joined in the discussion of North American pipelines by Enbridge chief executive Al Monaco and Greg Ebel, the CEO of Spectra Energy, who once worked as chief of staff for deputy prime minister Don Mazankowski under Brian Mulroney.

Each spoke of the challenges related to building infrastructure today. As Enbridge works toward meeting the 209 conditions set forward by the NEB, it’s worth noting Kinder Morgan completed its Anchor Loop link through Jasper National Park — a designated UNESCO World Heritage site — in 2008 without a whiff of protest.
