Effect of new liquor increases will be minimal, Alberta Gaming and Liquor Commission says (with video)

Albertans who imbibe will be doing their part to chip away at the province’s $5-billion deficit left by falling oil prices.

One of the most high-profile features of the new provincial budget are higher markups on booze. It’s the first time since 2002 that the markups — the province’s share of liquor revenue — have been raised.

Bill Robinson, president and CEO of the Alberta Gaming and Liquor Commission, offers more details on the price hikes in this edited Q & A:

Q: When does the increase take effect?
