It’s time for B.C. Liberals to put cocky rodeo promoter in his place: Vaughn Palmer

For sheer brazen defiance of a provincial tribunal, there’s no improving on the stance taken by Fort. St. John rodeo promoter Terry McLeod, owner of the 70-hectare tract of farmland at the centre of a controversy involving Agriculture Minister Pat Pimm.

The Agricultural Land Commission earlier this year rejected McLeod’s bid to remove the land from the provincial reserve so he could build an outdoor rodeo grounds, indoor arena, and recreational vehicle park.

McLeod appealed the rejection, backed by Pimm, his local MLA. In August the commission turned him down a second time, pointing out that this was Class 2 land (“high quality for agricultural purposes”) and inviting him to consider alternatives within the 5,600 hectares of agricultural land already designated as suitable for non-farm use within the region.
