Liquor regulator eases booze rules for Stampede

Calgarians eager to kick up their cowboy boots and enjoy a pint will be able to do it earlier than ever at local bars during this year’s Calgary Stampede.

On Thursday morning, the Alberta Gaming and Liquor Commission announced it will allow restaurants, bars and lounges to start serving alcohol starting at 8 a.m. through the Calgary Stampede. For parade day on Friday, liquor service will be allowed to start at 7 a.m.

In a news release, AGLC CEO Bill Robinson said the pilot project “will allow us to get a better sense of both the industry as well as the wider community’s appetite for potential changes to liquor laws we plan to look at further down the road.”
