Canadian banks like regulator with fewer ‘prescriptive’ rules

Canada’s banks rank their prudential regulator, the Office of the Superintendent of Financial Institutions (OSFI), ahead of other regulators domestically and abroad when it comes to the relationship between the watchdog and the financial institutions, according to The Strategic Counsel, an independent research firm.

“OSFI is viewed as a regulator that seeks to foster a more positive and effective working relationship than do some other regulators (both internationally and within Canada),” concluded the research firm that was retained by OSFI “to explore perceptions of OSFI’s performance” through confidential consultations.
