A prominent B.C. First Nations figure is lending his support to the notion that a refinery should be built on the province’s northern coast to process raw bitumen and then ship the refined products to Asian markets.
Ellis Ross stepped down as chief councillor of the Haisla Nation last autumn after being appointed by Premier Christy Clark as the Liberal candidate for Skeena in the coming provincial election.
While the Haisla opposed the $7.9-billion Northern Gateway proposal to ship diluted bitumen via tanker from Kitimat, the First Nation has been an active supporter of the liquefied natural gas industry under Ross’s leadership.
