A proposed $13-billion northern B.C. oil refinery project, by winning a public endorsement this week from former Haisla Nation chief Ellis Ross, took a step forward in its bid to win “social licence” from British Columbians.
The backing from Ross, Premier Christy Clark’s appointed candidate in the Skeena riding in May’s election, gives a boost to Pacific Future Energy Corp.’s high-profile team of executives and advisers.
That team includes former Conservative cabinet minister Stockwell Day, one-time judge and provincial Liberal attorney general Wally Oppal, former Assembly of First Nations national chiefs Shawn Atleo and Ovide Mercredi, former Westbank First Nation chief Robert Louie, and former Canadian union leader Dave Coles.
