It could cost more money for events like craft beer markets to operate in city parks next year.
Buried in the draft 2017 budget is a new charge labelled “alcohol extra fee” with a range between $10 and $270. The fee would depend on the park.
According to Dan Chenier, the head of parks and recreation, the city is expanding the special alcohol fee to booze-serving events that rent city parks. The fee has applied to events inside city facilities, he said.
Chenier said the city is receiving more requests from organizers wanting to use city parks for events that have an alcohol component. An example, he said, is the brewery market that has used Hintonburg Park.
