Sea Ice Science Unsettled?

Arctic sea ice is melting. But, Antarctic sea ice is growing and the amounts are breaking all records. While it’s looking clearer that greenhouse gasses are at minimum partly responsible for the dramatic decline in Arctic sea ice, scientists can’t explain why sea ice in the Antarctic is surging.

Climate change is a voting issue for many Canadians. The goal is to pressure the next government to expand the mandate of energy regulators to consider climate change when reviewing projects such as Kinder Morgan’s Trans Mountain pipeline expansion and Trans Canada’s Energy East pipeline.

With Canada’s economy and environment on the line, RegWatch reached out to climate scientists at the National Snow & Ice Data Center in Boulder, Colorado. The NSIDC is NASA funded and responsible for analyzing sea ice data, going back to the start of satellite records in 1979.

Get an update on the artic sea ice decline and hear directly from the scientists working on unravelling the mystery around Antarctic sea ice growth.
